Olo's Engage tool provides users with the ability to insert images into Email and SMS campaigns in .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, and .png format. Follow the best practices listed below to help ensure your images display and perform as expected upon delivery.
- Limit the max width of your images to the width of your email template. This is normally between 600-800px. From an email design perspective, less is more. Attention spans are limited, especially in email, so try and get the intention of your images across while keeping width and height down if you have more content to display within your template.
- Try to keep the file size of .jpg, .jpeg, and .png files around or below 50 KB. For GIF files aim to keep these files below 500 KB. This usually equates to 1-4 animation frames within a GIF.
- Most creative design editors like Adobe Photoshop will set the loop settings of the file to once. If you want gif files to loop indefinitely be sure to establish this setting when exporting the file.
SMS
- Similar to email, keep GIF files below 500 KB. While you can upload image files up to 2 MB within the Engage tool, message carriers may compress GIFs over 500 KB.
- Design images for SMS at a 9:16 aspect ratio and avoid transparency.
